• Here it goes.

22 weeks on the other side of the world. To find me on your classroom globe, you'd have to crane your neck and imagine me standing upside down. So much of who we are is where we are. Imagine the tragedy of never leaving home- never letting your ears tangle at the rapid tune of foreign tongues, or never tasting the air of an unknown city. To travel is to live more lives than you were born with. This will be- A test of self. A lesson in independence A party on the south side of the world. And you're invited "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

Crossing the finish line…

What do you do when a dream- years in the making – becomes reality? Waiting in the morning shade underneath the Sydney Harbour Bridge- 30 minutes until the start of the Sydney Marathon, I realize how far I have come ( and run ) to reach this moment. I also realize I have a long 42 … Read more

Serendipity in Sydney

You get off the train at Sydney’s central station and feel the pulse of the city- a low rumbling of ferry boats, the humming of digeredoo street performers, and a buzz of laughter Then you see it.  Sydney Harbor and it is like you are the only person in the world. For the first time … Read more

Big Fat 20

Do I look any different?  Mirroring the winter fashion of Aussie natives, I bought some black jeans, leather boots, and top every outfit with … Read more

Things to know about Australia.

1.  Winter in Australia… Is…COLD! Glad I only brought one sweatshirt, two long-sleeves and a light jacket.  The 40 degree mornings with that ocean breeze are brisk to say the least… 2.  Say goodbye to Bananas… $15 for three I’ll miss you my yellow friends. I await the day when I can taste your potassium-laced … Read more

From up here…

It all looks so organized from up here, Like a Blackberry code for the Midwest.   I wonder if Piet Mondrian ever flew above this square-scape of land. Maybe he drew his inspiration from such geometric perfection   The ground is stitched together by roadways and manmade plans, Only to be torn by natures squiggling … Read more

Independence Day

What will it be like? I have created an entire fantasy world of what I predict Australia to be like.  In my head I have compiled a scrapbook of Google images, and pasted them alongside silly facts from Aussie books and movies.  Australia will be nothing like I expect, but I just can’t help imagining. … Read more
